Florida Citrus Smoothie

Smoothies are by far one of the easiest meals you can make. I mean, seriously, when else can you grab a whole bunch of your favorite foods and just blend them into something amazing?? Plus, smoothies are an easy way to get a lot of vitamins and nutrients into just one serving.

Like this Florida Citrus Smoothie is loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C. Not only is this the start of Florida Citrus Season, it’s also the beginning of flu season, so why not load up on vitamin C and enjoy it in this healthy smoothie??  Sounds like a win-win to me 😉

The star of this citrus smoothie is the Florida Starburst Pummelo. Florida Starbust Pummelo is grown by Noble Citrus right here in Central Florida. You can learn more about the Florida Starburst Pummelo aka the Largest Citrus on Earth HERE.

Now, the Florida Starburst Pummelo is loaded, and I mean loaded, with vitamin C, but it is also a good source of potassium, fiber and they are rich in antioxidants. While the Florida Starburst Pummelo may look like a grapefruit, don’t let that fool you, they are sweeter (higher on the brix scale!) and much tastier in my opinion.

Alright, let’s get blending shall we??  You will see that I used milk in this smoothie recipe, please feel free to use your favorite liquid, personally I like the added protein and vitamin D that milk adds to my smoothies.

Ingredients:

1 cup pummelo – peeled

1/2 orange – peeled

8 baby carrots

6 slices cucumber

1 cup milk – I used Florida milk

Instructions:

  1. Place all the ingredients into your favorite blending device and blend until smooth
  2. Enjoy!
What is one of your favorite smoothie recipes?  Did you know that Florida Citrus was loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants?

According to the USDA, the Florida tangerine citrus group “has soared in popularity, with per capita availability more than doubling between 2000 and 2022. This broad group includes tangelos, mandarins, clementines, and traditional tangerines. A comparison of per capita fresh tangerine and fresh orange availability over the last 20 years shows the share going to tangerines increasing from 20 to 40 percent.”

The article goes on to say that growth of the U.S. tangerine market coincides with the launch of marketing campaigns for easy-peel seedless mandarins…”
