Natural Sugars Are So Different From Added Sugars

You’re probably thinking, “Autumn Honey must be high in sugar if they are that sweet.” But don’t worry—natural sugars are different from added sugars!

Naturally occurring sugars found in fruit break down more slowly, helping you avoid the crash you feel with refined sugars. Plus, fruits are high in fiber, helping you feel full while assisting in blood sugar regulation. So overall, natural sugars and the essential nutrients found in our tangerines will help to keep you healthy.

How Much Vitamin C Is Too Much?

One medium tangerine provides about 23.5 mg of VItamin C.

If you consult the Mayo Clinic you will see that Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that supports normal growth and development and helps your body absorb iron. It has been associated with healthier skin and many other health benefits. Because your body doesn’t produce or store vitamin C, it’s important to include vitamin C in your diet. The recommended minimum adult dose of vitamin C is 65 to 90 mg per day, and the maximum daily dose is 2,000 mg. If you get to the upper limit (about 85 tangerines) it is unlikely to be harmful, but might cause stomach discomfort. [1]

Loaded with Antioxidants

According to the USDA antioxidants eliminate cancer-causing free radicals and lead to better health.Citrus fruits are among the highest sources of antioxidants, joining beans, blueberries, apples, plums and many other fruits and vegetables.

It is possible to do harm by consuming too many antioxidants, but generally only via the overuse of antioxidant supplements. But with food products, the conventional wisdom still applies: Opt for a wide variety of whole foods high in antioxidants over supplements and don’t go overboard on any one food.

Allergens

While any food can cause a food allergy, allergies to citrus fruits are rare but they can happen. If you have this allergy,  you may experience slight tingling in hands or around mouth area when handling or consuming citrus or citrus juice. Unfortunately there is no known cure for this rare allergy. If you or a family member experiences allergy symptoms, you should simply avoid citrus.

Food Safety

We are the only grower/packer in the state of Florida to have a full safety program anchored by a 5 Log Reduction Certified Facility for all Noble branded citrus and berries.

We also have a USDA Inspector on site to help ensure safety in the supply of all citrus and berries we grow, packs and ship. Our fruit leaves our facility and is delivered directly to our grocery partners.

Oranges vs. Tangerines Per Capita was 80/20–Now is 60/40 (and Gaining)

According to the USDA, the Florida tangerine citrus group “has soared in popularity, with per capita availability more than doubling between 2000 and 2022. This broad group includes tangelos, mandarins, clementines, and traditional tangerines. A comparison of per capita fresh tangerine and fresh orange availability over the last 20 years shows the share going to tangerines increasing from 20 to 40 percent.”

The article goes on to say that growth of the U.S. tangerine market coincides with the launch of marketing campaigns for easy-peel seedless mandarins…”
